THQ Nordic has announced that Gothic Classic, Gothic 2 Complete Classic, and Gothic 3 Classic are all coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2026. The announcement was made during the company’s recent showcase event, where it also announced the Early Access launch of action RPG Titan Quest 2.

Alongside the visuals for the remasters of the three classic action RPGs getting a boost thanks to higher resolution textures and smoother framerates, THQ Nordic has also confirmed that the three games will be getting updated control schemes to make better use of modern gamepads. The three titles were announced with a new trailer that you can check out below.

While these remasters are getting ready to pop up on consoles next year, THQ Nordic along with developer Alkimia Interactive have also been working on a remake of the original Gothic. During its event, the publisher had also announced that the remake would be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in early 2026. The announcement was made with a trailer that showed off legendary necromancer Xardas.

For players that might be curious but haven’t yet gotten around to checking out the free Nyras Prologue demo that has been available since February, a video had been released earlier this year that showcased 22 minutes of gameplay for the Gothic remake. The video gave us a good look at what the open world of the RPG will look like. Starting things slowly with a conversation between the protagonist and Diego, more of the world is then revealed as the player explores the opening mine.

In February, Alkimia Entertainment released the first of its Making Of video series for Gothic 1 Remake. The primary focus of the video was the “essence of Gothic”, with several developers from the studio talking about their experiences with the original game and how their love for the classic will carry over into the remake.

“What was amazing to me the first time that I played Gothic was how you could solve a lot of situations by taking advantage of everyone,” said technical artist Roger Llovera. “Everyone would take advantage of you, of course, but then you have chances where you can take advantage of a character killing a Scavenger for you.”

A second Making Of video was then released in April, this time focusing on the differences between the original Gothic and the upcoming remake. In the video, the developers spoke about making the original Gothic for a modern audience while still maintaining some of the rougher edges that made the original a cult classic RPG to begin with.

“Our job was to find out what elements should stay exactly as they are and what elements should be expanded,” said studio director Reinhard Pollice.

A third Making Of video was released in July, focusing on the visual and art changes that are being made in the Gothic 1 Remake. The video featured developers talking about walking the “fine line between being realistic and believable and also at the same time having this dark fantasy theme inside,” as described by art director Daniel Candil.
