Dying Light: The Beast Dev Diary Outlines Kyle Crane’s Journey, Brutal Chimera Executions

As Kyle ventures forth through Castor Woods, he'll encounter other survivors and help them rise against the controlling Baron.

It’s been a long journey for Kyle Crane since he first dropped into Harran in 2015’s Dying Light. After the events of The Following and his kidnapping at the hands of The Baron, he returns in Dying Light: The Beast, angrier but motivated by revenge. In a new developer diary, franchise director Tymon Smektala talked about Crane and the tagline for the upcoming sequel.

The major addition is Kyle’s new beast-like powers from the infection. On top of ripping zombies apart, it allows for going toe-to-toe with Chimeras, which make up the boss battles. If you thought the previously teased executions were insane, Smektala confirms plenty of others when defeating the Chimeras while in Beast Mode.

Throughout his quest, Crane will meet other individuals oppressed by The Baron and ultimately help them break free from his control. It’s a sign of harnessing his anger and trauma over years of experimentation to do some good. And if The Baron’s army is decimated along the way, all the better.

Dying Light: The Beast launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (and later this year for Xbox One and PS4). You can learn more about the process behind Kyle’s new design and check out the recently-revealed PC requirements.
