In the wake of various issues on other platforms, Borderlands 4 is no longer launching on October 3rd for Nintendo Switch 2. Gearbox Entertainment stated that it didn’t “take this decision lightly” and is committed to ensuring it delivers “the best possible experience to our fans.”

Which means taking more time to develop and polish the experience. “Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross-saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important.” The new release date remains unknown, but Gearbox will update players once it has “fully adjusted our plans.” In the meantime, digital pre-orders will be cancelled on September 26th, though eShop users can manually activate the process as well.

Borderlands 4 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Despite a relatively good critical reception (check out our review here), the looter shooter has extensive issues on PC and consoles. The former had stability and frame rate issues, even with DLSS and Frame Generation, while the latter lacked a motion blur toggle and a field of view slider.

Gearbox has released updates to improve the title across all platforms, and it’s currently testing an FOV slider for consoles. Stay tuned for more updates and a new date for the Switch 2 version.
