Between adding the Void, new enemies and mission types, a new Legendary Warbond with Warhammer 40,000 and joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, Helldivers 2 has had a busy month. So busy, in fact, that a new player milestone seemingly slipped under the radar.
According to Sony Interactive Entertainment in a press release, Helldivers 2 has over 22.9 million players as of August 9th. It’s been available for PS5 and PC since February 2024 and arrived on Xbox Series X/S in August 2025. Beyond reportedly crossing 20 million sales as of January 2026, this is the first real update on lifetime players in quite some time.
Even with its usage of the word “players,” Helldivers 2 wasn’t available on any subscription service before it was added to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. Even considering its discounts throughout the years or how much revenue it’s earned through microtransactions, it’s easily PlayStation’s most successful live-service title ever, which probably stings all the more considering Arrowhead Game Studios isn’t a first-party studio.
Despite its impressive milestone, there’s no denying Helldivers 2 has yet to reach the peak of its popularity on Steam. However, it still has a pretty active player base. It topped nearly 147,000 peak concurrent players with the Devoid of Liberty update earlier this month and its 24-hour peak is currently around 98,305.
