Arrowhead Game Studios has revealed new details about the latest bit of content in Helldivers 2 – an entirely new frontier. Following the completion of the Gateway’s construction, players are now tasked with pushing back the Illuminate advance, and in the process, pressing their advantage to initiate a counteroffensive. The main goal of the story now is to “destroy their unnatural mutations in the name of Managed Democracy.”
The biggest new addition to Helldivers 2 is the Illuminate’s Source planet, which is now accessible thanks to the Gateway, which was constructed with the large reserves of Voteless tissue samples that were gathered during the Census Thunder campaign. The Void itself offers strange new experiences for Helldivers; the world doesn’t have any stars in its skies, and planets that have been pulled into the Void have been “transformed, mutated, and reborn inside it.”
On these worlds, players will encounter ancient technologies and Illuminate ruins that have to be documented and destroyed. The Source planet, formerly known as Seasse, is still hidden, and players will have to work together to find it so that it can then be liberated. The planet is also filled with horrifying Illuminate creatures, including the Wretch and the Crusher.
On entering the Void, players will find new objectives to complete across a variety of planets, with several randomized primary objectives available for every operation. These objectives can range from simply eradicating noxious Void blossoms to destroying Gazer Spires and cleansing Foul Shrines. Helldivers have been equipped with a tactical video camera that can be used to document discoveries made in the Void.
To help players successfully get out of a Void planet after completing their objectives, Helldivers will be able to unlock secondary extraction zones during missions. There will also be SEAF support squads that will further help the Helldivers take on the Illuminate forces.
Helldivers 2 recently got an update that brought in massive improvements to the SEAF platoons, and the NPC allies can now offer better medical and offensive support thanks to their upgraded gear, as well as offer morale boosts thanks to them being in the presence of the galaxy’s greatest heroes.
The storyline against the Void was kicked off relatively recently. Dubbed Devoid of Liberty, the narrative arc was accompanied by a host of gameplay improvements as well, like the level cap being raised all the way up to 300. Secondary objectives have also been further expanded to reward players for taking on the forces of the Void.
Just last week, Arrowhead Game Studios and Games Workshop also introduced a Warhammer 40,000-flavored Legendary Warbond to the co-op shooter. It includes quite a few armor sets offering the “True Grit” passive ability, giving players a boost to their weapon handling stats and 30 percent faster reload speeds for support weapons. Fans of the Imperium’s munitions can get their hands on weapons like the R/40-K Hot-Shot Marksman Rifle primary, the P/40-K Bolt pistol, and the 40-K Meltagun Stratagem.
Helldivers 2 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
