While Konami has been quite active in reviving its beloved franchises with remakes and remasters, the company seems to have grander ambitions for the future. In an interview with Nikkei Gaming, Konami Digital Entertainment president Hideki Hayakawa mentioned that there are plans to reboot the Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Suikoden franchises.
While discussing the variety of games Konami currently has in its development pipelines, including a new eFootball and eBaseball games, as well as continued support for Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, there are also other things in the works.
“We have a variety of titles in the pipeline, including the soccer game eFootball, baseball franchises such as eBaseball: Pro Spirits and Powerful Pro Baseball, Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, the mobile game Suikoden Star Leap, which opened pre-registration on July 1, 2026, and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, scheduled for release on October 15. Another key title is Rev. NOiR, a completely new IP announced in February. It is an RPG for game consoles that we plan to release globally. We have high expectations that players around the world will be very excited about it.”
“Reboots of existing IPs such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Suikoden are important initiatives that serve as pillars of our business. At the same time, we have a strong desire at Konami to create entirely new genres and works.”
Unfortunately, Hayakawa wasn’t exactly clear about what Konami regards as a reboot. While the traditional meaning of the word would imply that the company wanted to restart these franchises from scratch in the vein of Capcom’s attempt with DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013, in recent years, Konami has also published high-quality remakes of beloved titles with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Silent Hill 2 Remake. Along with this, a remake of the original Silent Hill is also confirmed to be in development.
When taken in that context, it might be an indication that Konami wants to remake older games of these franchises for a newer audience. What this means for Castlevania and Suikoden, however, remains to be seen.
While no new Metal Gear and Suikoden projects have been announced yet, Konami is continuing its work on the Silent Hill and Castlevania franchises. Last year saw the release of Silent Hill f, and on October 15th, we’ll have a brand-new Castlevania title – Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.
That’s not to say no Metal Gear projects are in the works, however. Konami is currently gearing up for the release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on August 27th. The title will include remastered versions of the originally PSP-exclusive Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the originally PS3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and the Game Boy Color title Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. It will also include a few bonuses, like the screenplay books for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker, as well as a digital copy of the soundtrack for all included games.
