Konami has released a brand-new trailer for its upcoming new entry in the Castlevania franchise – Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. The trailer confirms that it will be coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 15th, while also giving us a look at its 2D sidescrolling Metroidvania gameplay. Check it out below.
The story of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will revolve around a new young descendant of the Belmont family, who takes it upon herself to take on Dracula’s forces and attack his castle. Unlike her predecessors, the new protagonist will be much faster when it comes to gameplay. Along with this, the title is also slated to offer players quite a bit more freedom in their exploration efforts.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse was first unveiled back in February. Developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin of Dead Cells fame, the new title is slated to be a return to form for the long-dormant franchise. Gameplay showcased in the latest trailer also indicates that the title might feature some light RPG mechanics, since the protagonist’s damage numbers are visible. To what extent these RPG mechanics will define gameplay remains to be seen, however, since past Castlevania games – like Symphony of the Night – have leaned heavily on levelling and loot systems to offer gameplay depth.
Konami has noted that Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is only the beginning when it comes to the company’s plans to revive the franchise. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original Castlevania’s NES release, the company noted that “This is the beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania.” It went on to say that fans of the franchise should “look forward to the return of the magnificent ‘nightmare’ lurking in the darkness.”
