Following the recent Extended Look at Grand Theft Auto 6, workers at Rockstar Games are now breathing a sigh of relief and celebrating the fact that they’ve finally showcased the gameplay of a project they had been working on for several years. As caught by IGN, among these is production designer Terrance Radcliff, who took to social media to express pride in his team.

“Our Teams across the World have worked incredibly hard. So proud of everyone. Watching this with coworkers as a Family – and when I get home, I’ll watch again with my Family!”

Similar posts have been published by other members of the Rockstar Games team, like graphic programmer Mert Kirimgeri, who spoke about how meaningful it was to work on Grand Theft Auto 6 since Vice City was the first game they played.

“The first ever game I have played was Vice City as a kid. It’s an honour to be working with the most professional, brilliant and kind people on the planet over the most immersive game ever made, not to mention one of the most complex computer systems in human existence. Enjoy!!!”

Associate principal 3D graphic artist Sara Lazzeroni said, “Watching this with my colleagues was such an emotional experience. I’ve seen quite a few teary eyes. I’ve spent a quarter of my life working hard on this game, and there are no words to express how moving it is to see it all come together and share it with you all.”

Similarly, associate principal graphics programmer Emilio López was also quite excited to finally watch it all come together. “Just finished watching. It’s great to finally see it all come together beautifully, the work of so many incredibly talented colleagues. On my side, I mainly worked on dynamic lighting, volumetrics, some shadow tech, lots of optimization, and I’m very proud of it. So close now.”

As the Extended Look showed, Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be quite an impressive title. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson brought up direct comparisons between the complexity of the upcoming game and that of Red Dead Redemption 2.

“There is a whole other world in Red Dead Redemption 2, yes. GTA 6 is very much like that. There’s a whole lot of stuff that you discover emergently that we’re not necessarily directing you to through objectives or blips or icons on a map as well. If you take a bit of time and explore, you will be rewarded – a lot. It’s a big map, a very big map.”

Nelson has also spoken about various other aspects of the game, like its map size, how players won’t quite be as overpowered this time around, and the more realistic approach to driving, navigating, and stealing vehicles.

Even the NPC systems are seeing quite a bit of praise from other developers. IO Interactive’s AI programmer, for instance, has said that the NPCs in GTA 6 indicate that Rockstar Games is “at least 10 years ahead of the industry” in these aspects.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19th.
