Sony isn’t backing down on its push for an all-digital future for PlayStation despite negative PR and potential legal hurdles. However, as one of modern gaming’s most significant and seasoned presences, it’s surely realized the need to make the brand more appealing to players who might drop off in favor of its rivals.
Enter the Live TV on PS5 app, which is slated to bring free, ad-supported streaming to the media tab of your PS5, previously restricted to your services and the like, starting today in the United States. It’s a curated list that’s bringing in some heavy hitters like Community and The Walking Dead to its entertainment options, alongside movies, news, sports, creator content, weather updates, and even a few UFC fights if that’s your thing.
While it remains to be seen if this will earn back some of the goodwill the company has lost over the last couple of months, this is definitely a welcome option to have on your PS5. It’s certainly not bad when you want to take a break for a quick meal, or perhaps have something running in the background while you’re doomscrolling on your phone.
We’re wondering if a PlayStation Plus subscription will help with those ads in any way, but details are yet to be made known. There’s a trailer for the app, though, if it piques your interest.
