Square Enix has released a new trailer for its upcoming remake of Final Fantasy Brave ExviusFinal Fantasy Resonance. The trailer, which you can check out below, also confirms that the RPG is getting a free demo that consists of the entirety of its first chapter. Players will also be able to carry over their save data into the full game when it comes out on October 22nd.

As the trailer notes, Final Fantasy Resonance will be the first entry in the legendary franchise to make use of the HD-2D visual style. We get a look at many of the game’s cutscenes, dungeons, and fights showcasing how well the game’s jump to HD-2D will turn out.

Much like its original Brave Exvius incarnation, Final Fantasy Resonance will also feature plenty of cameos from across the Final Fantasy franchise. The trailer has confirmed that one of these cameos will be Final Fantasy 7’s iconic antagonist, Sephiroth. Players can take him on as a boss fight and, in the process, will have to figure out how to defend against his incredibly powerful attacks.

Producer Kiseki Nakashima had previously spoken about how the development team had to work hard to translate the game’s original art style into HD-2D. The process seemingly involved experiments with voxels, and even superimposing 2D effects on top of other 2D effects. Ultimately, HD-2D was picked as “the most suitable way to represent” the game’s various challenges and cinematic scenes.

Final Fantasy Resonance is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
