If you thought its predecessor was a beast, coming in at multiple discs and requiring 150 GB of installation space, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is on a completely different level. In a recent interview with VGC, game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the finale is “probably going to be around 200 GB.”

Asked about the decision to ship with a single Blu-ray disc on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, thus necessitating a hefty download, and whether the installation size would end up bigger than Rebirth, he responded, “In a word, yes. Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game.

“I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent.”

He also noted that despite the ongoing debate about discs, especially with PlayStation’s decision to stop production for new titles starting from January 2028, it was important for the team to offer “some kind of physical product.”

“One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we’re in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product. That was really important to us. Trust me!”

Launching on April 8th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation looks like an experience befitting its massive installation size. Hamaguchi claims it offers more content than Rebirth (which is all “good”), and you can essentially explore the entire planet.

Players receive the Highwind airship fairly early, so they can venture into more challenging regions, even if they’re under-levelled. Of course, the development team has expanded on the gameplay significantly as well, introducing mounted combat on Chocobos and a grappling hook for more vertical traversal.
