Despite being playable at Gamescom, 007 First Light is skipping Nintendo Switch 2 this year and launching in March 2027. It’s the third delay for the port, but technical producer Cristina Vega told Inven Global that ultimately, it’s to fans’ benefit.
“While being delayed for a third time is certainly disappointing news for fans, this decision was also made for their benefit. The development team had been pushing hard for a long time and needed a brief breather, and combined with requests from marketing and various other factors, we had no choice but to postpone the release date to March 2027 once again.”
Of course, they also have another motive for delaying the Switch 2 version. “Ultimately, we decided on another delay because we want fans to experience the game in its most polished form on Switch 2, so we ask for your understanding.”
Vega noted that the porting is “going very well,” and when comparing the Gamescom build with footage from March, she said there “was really so much progress.” However, the team is far from finished.
“We can’t quite say we’ve reached the final stage yet, but we are definitely getting close to the final phase, which includes performance and various fine-tuning. I think it might even finish earlier, but since release is scheduled for March 2027, please wait just a little longer.”
Unfortunately, one compromise is 60 frames per second. Instead, the Switch 2 version targets a “stable 30 FPS”, which was the team’s “highest priority.” Not that it didn’t attempt to go higher – it just didn’t work out.
“Of course, we didn’t ignore things like 60 FPS. In fact, when we first started working on it, we experimented with applying different frame rates depending on the resolution. We even tried seeing if we could run cinematic scenes at a different frame rate, but ultimately it didn’t work properly.”
Regardless, expect to hear even more about the Switch 2 version as it nears its new launch window. 007 First Light is currently available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and has sold four million units thus far. IO Interactive has been busy updating these versions with new content, including TacSim missions and, more recently, Path Tracing on PC. Head here for all the details.
Other content is inbound, including a new story mission featuring Bawma and New Game Plus. However, IOI has yet to announce release dates for either. Stay tuned for updates, as always.
