While the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light was slated for release in Summer 2026, developer IO Interactive has now announced that it has been pushed further back to a new March 2027 release window. In a social media post, the studio said that the decision to delay the Switch 2 version of the game came about from wanting to ensure that the port was of high quality.

“We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond’s reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.”

Further in its post, the studio has said that feedback for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light from its demo at Gamescom has been quite positive, and that fans will have another version to give it a shot during Tokyo Game Show 2026, which is set to take place from September 17th until September 21st. More details about the Switch 2 port will be revealed as we get closer to the new release window.

“We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at gamescom, and it’s a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch. The same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show this week, so please join us there if you would like a hands-on experience.

“We will share further updates as soon as we are ready. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.”

Interestingly, rumors had indicated that the Switch 2 port of 007 First Light was well on track to come out by September 16th. These rumors came about thanks to Amazon Japan listings for the game, priced at $8,910 (roughly $55), which also happened to keep its pricing in line with its PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S counterparts.

The Switch 2 port was originally going to be released alongside 007 First Light’s other platform releases, but IO Interactive had decided to push it back to Summer 2026. In a statement, studio CEO Hakan Abrak said that the team wanted to make sure that the port wasn’t inferior when compared to the other versions.

“It’s running on the Switch 2,” he said. “We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be. I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version. To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. We said summer. It’s probably going to be late summer. But we’re going to get it out.”

007 First Light was released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on May 27th. For more details about the Bond game, check out our review, where we gave it a score of 9 out of 10.
