Crimson Desert’s first paid expansion, Charting the Unknown, is out now on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Featuring a brand-new story and several new systems, including ship-building, sailing, underwater exploration, and more, it retails for $24.99.
Check out the launch trailer below, which showcases Kliff wrestling a giant shark, emerging from the water to board an enemy ship and even attaching thrusters to his own vessel for maximum ramming speed. In terms of player response, at least on Steam, the expansion has been rated “Mostly Positive” with 78 percent of its currently 261 reviews recommending it.
What’s odd is the player count. Since launch, it’s peaked at 19,954 concurrent players, which isn’t too shabby, but that’s after seven months of free updates and improvements, and over 276,000 Steam players at launch. That’s also a significant step-down from the launch of the Enhanced Update and its many story improvements.
Granted, it just released, and the reception is likely far stronger on consoles to make up for this, so we’ll need to wait for more details. Either way, with how massive Charting the Unknown is, as discussed in this Reddit post, it’s going to keep hardcore fans busy for a long time.
