While Bend Studio’s previous title was one of many live-service cancellations by PlayStation, it seems it had another in development. According to MP1st, who spoke to anonymous “people aware of what’s happening” at the studio, it’s allegedly being revealed and, surprisingly, launching in 2027. At least, that’s the current plan.
While touted as “much further along in development” than you would think, it’s reportedly a new third-person title, and not a sequel to Days Gone. However, it’s also unclear whether this is a new IP. While co-op is apparently included, it’s not planned to feature live-service elements, though that may change depending on how development proceeds.
After Concord’s failure and halting its bullish live-service plans, it would be surprising if Sony went in that direction, especially with Horizon Hunters Gathering reportedly testing poorly and Marathon’s underwhelming player numbers. Officially, however, the company isn’t keen on stopping with live service, as noted by Sony Interactive Entertainment president Hideaki Nishino in June (with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls seemingly factored in).
Beyond those titles, PlayStation is publishing another co-op shooter, Bad Robot Games’ 4:LOOP. Coming to PS5 and PC with a release date to be announced, its third closed beta took place in early October, and the development team has been dropping lore bits and artwork for the world. As always, stay tuned for more updates, including a potential release date.
