The story of BioWare’s closure and Mass Effect’s cancellation got more depressing after EA reportedly chose to prioritize developing Star Wars Battlefront 3 at Respawn Entertainment and DICE. However, one has to wonder: What about the other Star Wars series that the publisher is known for? What’s going on with the third entry in the Star Wars Jedi series?
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who reiterated that Battlefront 3 hasn’t begun development, Star Wars Jedi 3 is “far in development.” How far is “far”? In another Bluesky post, he noted it should be “announced soon,” which sounds like an announcement for The Game Awards if we’ve ever heard of one.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson claimed last June that the follow-up to 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would star an older Cal Kestis, though he wouldn’t require a walking stick. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported that it began production immediately after the second game. “Everyone involved knew they were going to make a third game. They wanted to do a trilogy.”
Officially, EA’s Laura Miele said that Respawn Entertainment was “working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.” With Battlefront 3 allegedly coming, the studio could wrap up work on Jedi 3 before moving on. That doesn’t necessarily mean a 2027 launch or anytime sooner, but it certainly wouldn’t be surprising.
