Cold Iron Studios’ Aliens: Fireteam Elite didn’t set the world on fire at launch but it found a decent number of fans. It’s received several free content updates since August 2021, adding new classes like the Phalanx and Lancer along with new weapons and cosmetics. While there’s more to come, the developer is seemingly teasing something else.

In a new tweet, it showcased an image of an Action Report by the 40th Marine Expeditionary Unit. It noted the retrieval and containment of a mutagenic pathogen on the moon LV-895. The native life (non-native, which includes the Xenomorphs) is seemingly susceptible to mutation from it. “Any spill must be swiftly contained,” the report notes after teasing that other undiscovered stockpiles may exist.

It’s likely this is the new mode and feature slated to release in Q3 2022, as per the developer’s roadmap. Perhaps it’s an Infection Mode where the Xenomorphs are mutated and tougher to kill. Even more interesting is the date of the Action Report – June 7th 2202. Rearrange the year to “2022” and this could mean an announcement tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more details tomorrow. Aliens: Fireteam Elite is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Check out our review here.
