It was recently revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons wouldn’t allow players to transfer save data between consoles. The game has caught some criticism for this, since this means that if for some reason your Switch should get lost or broken, you would lose all your progress in New Horizons. Nintendo recently said that they might consider adding a save data backup to the game in the future, and now, they’ve provided an update on that.
An update on Nintendo UK’s website reiterates that though Animal Crossing: New Horizons will not allow save data transfers, and though it won’t support cloud saves, it will allow players to save data from the server “in the event of console failure, loss, or theft.” There is a catch though- this feature will only be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, which seems a bit unfair. This really seems like the kind of feature that should be available to all players right from the get go.
Recently, Nintendo also confirmed that the game will only allow one save per Switch console, regardless of how many copies of the game you have or how many different accounts you have on your Switch. Read more on that through here.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out for the Switch on March 20. Pre-loading of the game is now available.
