Anthem’s Public Demo Concludes With Ash Titan-Spawning Storm

BioWare offers a tease of its live event model for the looter shooter.

It’s been several hours since the public demo for BioWare’s Anthem concluded. However, the developer decided to offer a taste of how its live event system would work with a fiery storm raging in the sky. Players who witnessed the storm in Freeplay (like Reddit user Jonny_AN) would be greeted by some Ash Titans. These weren’t all the usual Ash Titans fought during missions though.

There were also Ancient Ash Titans, which were seen in the first gameplay reveal trailer for Anthem. Along with emitting waves of fire that can overheat one’s Javelin, they also manifest balls of flame in specific areas that will explode if you don’t move. It even possesses a giant chest laser, which will hurt a lot. Killing these Ash Titans rewards Rare items, but you can expect that to scale up with difficulty in the full game.

Such events can be expected more frequently when Anthem launches. Producer Scylla Cost has already talked about the different events and weather states, which would cause the world to behave in interesting new ways. “Anthem is a dynamic world; if you have rain right now it applies to your jets you can fly for longer as it cools down your jets,” said Costa.

“You can use electricity and therefore create larger effects. Try to imagine that we can create different weather states and apply that so not only are new parts of the world going to behave differently, but old parts of the world as well. If it’s day or if it’s night some creatures may show up or may be more powerful. We can play with all of these variables and create a new narrative for the game.”

Anthem is out on February 22nd for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Origin Access Premier subscribers can get the full game on February 15th for PC.
