Apex Legends – King’s Canyon Hatches “Line Up” With Upcoming Content

Respawn is "doing something kind of new" with these changes.

Apex Legends Season 5 - Loba

Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends is currently in its fifth season, Fortune’s Favor, with changes to the map and a brand new Legend, Loba, being positively received. However, it’s also introduced some strange new hatches in King’s Canyon. Where do they lead? It may be sometime before players find out but there is a plan for them.

Speaking to VG247, design director Jason McCord talked about “doing something kind of new” and having these kinds of changes that will “unlock” later. “The hatches are a fun way to sprinkle changes throughout the map. We don’t have to make massive changes everywhere, we can sprinkle these things around. We’re doing something kind of new, where we have some stuff that is there, but is not unlocked yet.

“And we’re going to unlock it at a certain time, that lines up with some other stuff that we have coming.”

Of course, Apex Legends isn’t the first game to have strange hatches leading somewhere. Call of Duty: Warzone players have been dealing with mysterious bunkers for a while and will probably learn more in the next season (which was recently delayed). Rumors indicate that these bunkers are a way to tease the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops reboot.

As for Apex Legends, Season 5 also introduced quests which players can partake in to solve a larger mystery. Time will tell what future content and changes are added to stay tuned.
