ARC Raiders Movie and TV Series Offers Are “Tempting,” Says Embark, “But It Needs To Be Done Right”

"I hope that we will do that. I think the IP fits quite well with something like that," said studio CEO Patrick Söderlund.

Between taking the multiplayer scene by storm and reportedly selling over 12 million copies in just a few months, is it the least bit surprising to see ARC Raiders receive offers for movies and TV shows? Embark Studios CEO Patrick Söderlund confirmed this was the case in a play session with GamesBeat’s Dean Takahashi (transcription via IGN).

“I can’t tell you how many companies have reached out to us wanting to make a TV series [and] movie out of this IP,” he said.

And while Söderlund found such offers tempting, he’s not exactly rushing to make it happen. “We [wouldn’t] mind doing that. It would be fun, but it needs to be done in the right way. I hope that we will do that. I think the IP fits quite well with something like that.” He also noted that there isn’t “anyone working on a TV or film adaptation yet” on the team.

As always, plans could change, but you can’t deny that it’s been a strong couple of years for video games to movies and TV. Between the smash success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (and the hyped follow-up) and the craze behind HBO’s The Last of Us or Amazon’s Fallout series, it wouldn’t be surprising to see ARC Raiders take the plunge next.

In the meantime, the extraction shooter is steadily evolving with each new update. North Line added Stella Montis and two new ARC Machines, while Cold Snap introduced a new weather effect and a limited-time event. While bugs, exploits and matchmaking errors have emerged, nothing has stopped the title from retaining about 90 percent of its peak concurrent player base on Steam.
