After ending support for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced with a massive update, Ubisoft is focused on its next mainline entry, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. However, there have reportedly been issues. Sources speaking to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson allege a year-long internal delay.
It could launch in 2028, after it was reportedly targeting mid-2027. However, it seems another mainline title, codenamed Mars, is reportedly in the works per insider Jonathan. Citing sources with “access to Ubisoft’s backend systems,” it’s apparently set in Ancient Rome and could very well tie into the upcoming live-action series. This wouldn’t be the first time the franchise has visited the city – see 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.
While Henderson admits hearing the codename, he couldn’t verify the other details because the franchise has been “going through turbulence over the last year or so.” And while Ubisoft’s huge restructuring could be one reason, it seems previous franchise head Marc-Alexis Côté’s departure is a major factor. Though the publisher called it “voluntary,” Côté called it a “constructive dismissal” and sued Ubisoft for nearly $1 million.
With an update for Hexe promised next year, we may not have to wait long before learning more about the franchise’s future. Perhaps Mars is closer to release than many might think. Time will tell, so stay tuned for more details and in the meantime, check out our review of Resynced, which surpassed expectations and sold over 3.5 million in about two weeks.
