Marvel’s Wolverine may not be living up to many fans’ expectations, with 2.4 million sold in almost two months, but Insomniac’s Spider-Man franchise has a new lease of life, thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The latter was released in theaters on July 30th, and for the fiscal quarter ending September 30th, Sony confirms that it led to unit sales for the games approximately doubling year-on-year.
This includes Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 and 2 along with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Sony didn’t reveal the quarterly sales in question, but it’s still impressive. After all, the first game launched in 2018, followed by Miles Morales in 2020 and Spider-Man 2 in 2023. All three were released on PC before the company reversed course on bringing its major single-player titles to the platform.
Though there have been plenty of hints that Insomniac is working on a Wolverine sequel, including one that could include multiple playable X-Men, it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s prioritizing the next mainline Spider-Man title. Insomniac’s ransomware leaks indicated a 2028 release, but it also claimed the long-rumored Marvel’s Venom would launch in 2025.
The latter is still reportedly in the works, so don’t be surprised if it pops up soon. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
