Larian Studios, the makers of the stellar Divinity: Original Sin 2, and Baldur’s Gate, the original premiere RPG franchise, is a match made in heaven. So the announcement that Baldur’s Gate 3 is being developed by Larian came as a pleasant shock to one and all, one that’s made a lot of people very, very happy.
And as per Larian, there’s definitely cause for excitement, too. Speaking with GameSpot, Larian Studios head and founder Swen Vincke spoke about the upcoming RPG a great deal. In conversation, he went on to call Baldur’s Gate 3 “the biggest that we’ve ever done”, mentioning that in total, there are over 200 people working on the game, and that number’s going to cross 300 very soon.
“We’re in production,” said Vincke went asked what stage of Baldur’s Gate 3 was in right now. “This is the biggest RPG we’ve ever made, so our team is now over 200 people internally and together with all the externals, we’re heading over 300 people. It’s a very big production. It’s the biggest that we’ve ever done.”
Considering the size, scope, and sheer options that were available in Divinity: Original Sin 2, and just how massive that game was in terms of content and ambition as well, the fact that Larian’s next project is even bigger is a very exciting one.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is due out on PC (via Steam and GOG) and Stadia- but don’t expect it to launch in 2019.
