Larian Studios’ next major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming soon. As promised, some new details are available. In a new Steam Community post, the developer revealed that the city of Baldur’s Gate is “ambitious” in scope, which led to some setbacks.
“One of the biggest issues with creating games is that technology is always trying to keep up with your ambition, and here we’ve been hit pretty hard by some setbacks.” It acknowledged the performance issues compared to Act 1 and 2 and confirmed that Patch 2 would improve the same Act 3 and the game as a whole.
“We’ll also be working throughout September to improve performance in Act 3 further with new technology that’s been taking a bit longer to release than we expected.”
Patch 2 will also deal with various issues and bugs in Act 3. It also seems that certain companion reactions to events that didn’t trigger and are alleged to be “cut content” were bugged. “These are being solved. Where there seem to be loose ends, we’re tying them up.” On the bright side, players can look forward to an expanded ending for Karlach.
There’s no release date yet for Patch 2, but Larian Studios said it’s right around the corner. Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PC – check out our review here. It will release on September 6th for PS5, with Digital Deluxe Edition owners receiving early access on September 1st, and is also coming to Xbox Series X/S later this year.
