Battlefield 2042

Ripple Effect Studios – the studio that was until very recently known as DICE LA – has been confirmed to be working on the unannounced third multiplayer mode for the upcoming Battlefield 2042, and all involved with it have been very secretive about what it’s going to entail. EA has said that the mode is a “love letter” to series fans, which gives us some idea, but concrete details have been scant.

Recently, however, during the “The Future of First Person Shooters” panel with Battlefield and Apex Legends devs in the lead up to the upcoming EA Play Live event, we got some interesting new details on this mysterious mode. As spotted by Pure Xbox, when asked about this mode, general manager of Ripple Effect Studios Christian Grass said that while we’re going to have to wait for the official reveal for full details, the mode does involve bringing back some fan-favourite Battlefield maps and putting them into Battlefield 2042.

“I can’t say that much about it, but what I can is this though is one of the components of this experience that we’re creating is that we’re adding some of the fan favourite maps back into Battlefield 2042,” Grass said. “But the entire experience you’ll have to wait a little bit longer before we reveal what that is.”

That aligns with what leaks have said this mode is going to be- allegedly titled “Battlefield Hub”, this mode will bring back remastered versions of past Battlefield maps and weapons into the game and give them a new twist with Battlefield 2042 features and mechanics. Read more on that through here.

Full details on this mode will be shared at EA Play Live, which is slated for July 22.

Battlefield 2042 is out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 22.
