Borderlands 4 (2)

Gearbox Entertainment’s Borderlands 4 had a rather eventful May, following extensive new gameplay and details from the latest State of Play. It all kicked off at PAX East 2025 when CEO Randy Pitchford revealed that the looter shooter may end up costing $80.

After his “real fans” remark attracted backlash, Pitchford apologized not once but twice. Of course, things didn’t end there, as negative sentiment arose after recommending Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, currently free on the Epic Games Store until June 5th, to “real fans who may be cost-sensitive.”

When told that games shouldn’t be $80, Pitchford responded, “I’m afraid the industry is moving in that direction, and it’s just a reality that we’ll have to accept. The price for Borderlands 4 is going to be announced by the publisher soon. My wish, having worked my ass off on the game, is for as many people as possible to get to play it.”

Amid all this is the part about a price announcement and pre-orders potentially opening up. Perhaps at the Summer Game Fest showcase on June 6th? Borderlands 4 was teased in the latest hype trailer, and even if it’s no guarantee of an announcement, it was announced at last year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live (another event Geoff Keighley-organized event).

Time will tell, so stay tuned. Borderlands 4 launches on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Its budget is more than twice that of Borderlands 3, with Gearbox promising the “biggest universe that we’ve built.”
