Developer The Game Bakers has announced that its mountain-climbing title, Cairn, is making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in Early 2027. In the meantime, a demo will be available through the eShop later today. The port was announced with a trailer during Nintendo’s September 2026 Direct showcase.

The trailer gave us a good idea of what kinds of visual fidelity the studio is aiming for. While not too many sacrifices have been made in the process of bringing the title over to Nintendo’s console, there is a noticeable amount of aliasing on objects in the distance, especially when looking up at the mountain you’re getting ready to climb.

Much like its original release on PC and PS5, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cairn will also focus quite a bit on the challenges of climbing up a steep mountain. Players will have to pay attention to the surfaces they’re climbing as they carefully manage all four of their limbs and make their ascent without losing too much stamina. There will also be places to rest along the way at special checkpoints.

A notable aspect of the experience in Cairn is survival; players will need to make sure that they start out with enough supplies, and once they run out, they will have to forage for food and water. Not doing so will have dire consequences in terms of their stamina for the next stretch of their quest to conquer the mountain. There are also quite a few tools available for players, including pitons and pickaxes.
