Talk about some mixed emotions.

It was recently announced that the next game from Remedy Entertainment, Control, has gone gold. We’re just over a month away from it hitting store shelves, and it should be one to remember. But you might be getting ready to feel some mixed emotions at this next bit, as Control‘s development looks to have derailed a much anticipated sequel.

We reported yesterday that Alan Wake writer, Sam Lake, mentioned that he still hopes to do a proper sequel to the thriller at some point. Now IGN has released the full Unfiltered interview, and in it Lake reveals something surprising. Apparently, a sequel to Alan Wake was in the early stages of development, a few times actually, but it morphed into another project in one case (Quantum Break), and then got put on the back-burner over Control, a game they wanted to make that went in a very different direction. You can check out the full interview below.

It’s interesting to think about, especially since Lake seems so keen on the idea of doing an Alan Wake 2. Well, I’m not going to hold it against Control when it hits August 27th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
