In case you haven’t heard, Crimson Desert, the open-world action RPG from Pearl Abyss, is immense. It’s so big that marketing and strategic planning expert Will Powers told Destin Legarie in an interview that the campaign comprises only a “small percentage” of the overall content. However, is there the prospect for more, especially with how voracious some players can be?

Powers responded, “We’re focusing on launch right now. Just in terms of what we’re announcing. I almost challenge people to devour the content. I am a completionist at heart myself, and people have their work cut out for them in terms of devouring this content. If there’s appetite for something, then we’ll continue support it post-launch.

“I don’t want to talk about anything definitively because we haven’t announced post-launch content at this point. But when you look at how we’ve continued to support our other IP, Black Desert, for over 10 years… It’s 11 years since the Korean servers launched, and weekly content updates. So if the appetite is there, then I’m sure the developers will find a way to continue support.”

It’s not like there aren’t enough things to keep players busy with the base game. At one point, Kliff reunites with two other Greymane allies who become playable characters, and their playstyles are unique. That’s not even getting into all the secrets that abound, the faction questlines potentially left over, or simply exploring the massive world and taking it as it comes.

Assuming it isn’t available at launch, Pearl Abyss could take to adding the usual new features, including New Game+ and even more playable characters. New activities also wouldn’t be off the table. At this point, it seems all but a given, though it wouldn’t be surprising if Pearl Abyss is waiting to see how the critical and sales response lands before deciding how much to invest in post-launch content.

As always, we’ll need to wait for more details, so stay tuned. Crimson Desert launches on March 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, having gone gold last month.
