After selling two million copies within the first day of launch, Pearl Abyss has achieved a new milestone for Crimson Desert. It’s now at three million copies sold, which is fitting considering it had more than three million wishlists before release.

Available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, the open-world action-adventure title peaked at a respectable 248,530 concurrent players on Steam. The critical reception has been generally favorable thus far, with a 78 Metascore based on 93 critical reviews, but it’s quite an extensive range. Some appreciate the exploration, graphical fidelity (and PC optimization), and combat while criticizing the story, characterization, lackluster side quests and various “quirks” (which you can read about in our review).

Of course, Pearl Abyss has been working hard to address many of these issues. Its latest patch added a private storage in the Howling Hill Camp, allowing players to store items when running out of inventory space. Certain bosses and enemies deal less damage, while more Abyss Nexuses abound for the sake of fast travel.

It’s still working on improving the controls, especially for those on controller, and removing several instances of AI-generated assets. There’s been no word yet on whether mounts like the dire wolf and bear will become permanent, not to mention removing the cooldown timers on the dragon. Stay tuned for more updates on that in the future.
