Crimson Desert’s Vast, Non-Linear World Looks Like An All-Timer in Extensive New Gameplay

Crimson Desert

Besides the revelation that Crimson Desert will offer two other playable characters besides Kliff, the latest deep dive by Pearl Abyss also revealed the sheer amount of things that players can do in Pywel. While it sees players trying to reunite the Greymanes and rebuild their home, it shifts focus to the Abyss and the forces looking to exploit its powers.

Fragments of the Abyss can be discovered on the continent – investigating them yields Abyss Artifacts for unlocking and upgrading skills. However, you’ll also travel to the Abyss itself, that arrangement of floating ruins in the sky, to help restore balance using a nifty Ultrahand-like tool.

Of course, Pywel has plenty else going on, namely, factions in conflict. Some will involve liberating locations occupied by hostile groups, which will unlock new merchants, weapons, and resources. However, you can also completely ignore them and explore at your own pace. Explore new points of interest, follow treasure maps, attack strongholds for better equipment, or observe your surroundings for Knowledge.

For instance, pay enough attention to a person fishing, and you’ll learn how to use a fishing rod. Aside from new skills, Knowledge may also offer up quest clues. Interestingly, it seems you can threaten NPCs as well, perhaps for the sake of beating information out of them.

Crimson Desert launches on March 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and it seems Pearl Abyss wasn’t kidding when it touted a world that’s bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2.
