Studio MDHR’s Cuphead has achieved a new sales milestone. As announced on Twitter, the title has sold five million copies in the two years since launching. That means it’s gone platinum a whopping five times in that span.
The increase in sales are no doubt due to the release of the Nintendo Switch version. Available since April 2019 for the hybrid console, it marked the first time that an Xbox One console exclusive had released for a Nintendo platform. Since then, a Cuphead show has been announced and the game is even in development for Tesla cars.
Given the number of delays that Cuphead faced, it was cathartic to see it receive so much critical praise in 2017. The sales were positive as well with one million units sold in just two weeks. Cuphead would hit three million units sold in August 2018 and has only grown in popularity since. Currently, Studio MDHR is working on Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, which is set to release in 2020.
Cuphead turns two today, and we're so humbled to announce: it has officially gone five-times platinum!!
Starting now, the game is 20% off on all platforms for a full week. And stay tuned, because we have 5 days of fun and giveaways planned to celebrate 5 million copies sold! pic.twitter.com/oe7uTzY62Y
