Sony Bend Studio’s Days Gone is the next big triple-A release for this month, but it’s not exactly built like most blockbusters. In a recent video that goes into behind the scenes stuff inside the studio, creative director John Garvin and game director Jeff Ross talk about the game’s development. Originally, the idea started from wanting to make something brand new and story-based.

The team’s love for motorcycles eventually gave way to capturing that experience in-game. Though originally development started at 30 to 40 members, eventually the developer expanded to 130 people. By the studio’s own admission, it’s not quite as large as you’d expect for a game like Days Gone.

The video is worth a watch, especially for other interesting anecdotes (one engineer spearheaded the design for the horde, creating a solution for having 500 zombies on screen at once). Reviews for Days Gone will go live on April 25th, with the game out on April 26th. It’s already received update 1.03, which weighs 17.2 GB- but expect further patches at and after launch.
