After what felt like an eternity, the Prince of Persia franchise finally has life in it again. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown released later this year (with DLC also being in the works), while Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is also in development- and it seems Ubisoft’s plans for the franchise entail more than just those two.

In a report published on Insider Gaming, reputed leaker Tom Henderson has claimed that a new Prince of Persia game is being developed by Evil Empire, the indie studio behind Dead Cells. Evil Empire announced earlier this year this it was ending support for Dead Cells and moving on to “new adventures”, which, according to Henderson, will take the form of The Rogue Prince of Persia, a roguelite title with art style inspired by Franco-Belgian comics (The Adventures of Tintin, Asterix).

Allegedly, development on The Rogue Prince of Persia started back in 2019, not long after Evil Empire was established, following initial discussions between the studio and Ubisoft at GDC that year. As per the report, the game will be supported with “constant” free updates, with Evil Empire and Ubisoft looking to expand and evolve it over time based on feedback from players.

Henderson claims The Rogue Prince of Persia will launch for Steam as an early access title sometime later this year (which, interestingly, will also make it Ubisoft’s first day one Steam release since 2019). There’s no word on when exactly it will release, how long it will remain in early access, or when it’ll be announced.

Evil Empire did recently announce a new showcase, dubbed the Triple-i Initiative, for April 10, so it’s possible that we see something there.
