Hideo Kojima just got back from the movies, it seems.

Death Stranding was a game that you either loved or hated, without a whole lot in-between. It was an odd affair, with a story that in many ways showed both Hideo Kojima’s strengths and his weaknesses. Either way, the game has been out for a good while now, but Kojima is still out here teasing away with a new mysterious trailer, and I’m guessing he just got back from the movies.

The teaser was posted to his official Twitter, which you can see below. It’s shot very similar to trailers for the Academy Award-winning 1917, in fact a lot of it outright mimics that film, including the way “coming 2020” zooms in as the main character runs away from battle (with the same font and everything), as well as the use of World War trenches. Seems like Kojima was pretty stricken with the war film.

It’s not clear what is coming in 2020. The best bet is that this is something to do with the PC release that is scheduled to come out sometime this year. It could just also be a noted film buff playing around. We’ll just have to wait and see, I suppose. Kojima is slated to talk about the design philosophy at this year’s GDC, so it’s possible we could hear something there.
