Bungie is riding on Destiny 2’s next big expansion Forsaken to deliver the end-game and depth that fans have been craving since the game first launch launched. It’s adding random rolls, a PvEvP mode called Gambit, loadout changes, new Supers, Record Books and more to make that happen.
However, it’s also adding some freedom to how players approach the new story campaign. As the recent story trailer indicated, Prince Uldren and the Barons of the Scorn have escaped the Prison of Elders, killing Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6 in the process. While Uldren is the ultimate boss, players can hunt down the Barons in any order they choose.
As Bungie’s Scott Taylor explained to Games Radar, “We saw [Uldren] pull the trigger, but there’s these characters called the Barons that help him. When the game comes out you’re going to see how they were involved in this unfortunate act. You’re going to hate them just as much, if not more than, Uldren, and you’ve got to hunt them all down to get to Uldren. At a certain point in the story, you’re going to have a list you’re trying to check off.”
Of course, each has their own recommended Power level so there may be some debates on the best order of bosses. “I assume that once it comes out, people will go ‘Here’s the optimal order to do it in’, if you want to do it this way, and people will have opinions about which ones they like, and which they find most exciting, and which ones are fun to do first.” From the sounds of it, Bungie may also add an incentive to have players go back and defeat all these bosses, all over again.
Destiny 2: Forsaken is still a ways off. Bungie is prepping a new event called Solstice of Heroes which should go live in July. Whether all these big changes will lead to a better Destiny 2 will be known when Forsaken launches on September 4th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
