Destiny 2 - Season of the Seraph

The Season of the Seraph is live in Destiny 2, and Lightfall launches early next year with a new trailer coming today at The Game Awards. However, complaints about the current seasonal model – with its upgrade paths and time-gated content – continue. Game director Joe Blackburn addressed this in a thread on Twitter and assured fans that their feedback was heard “loud and clear.”

“I just wanted to step in and say: Heard loud and clear the feedback with our current seasonal backbones. The team is excited to put some more creative risk in seasonal progressions, but there will be some time before the feedback catches up with the dev cycle. Coming up next is Lightfall and Season 20. While Guardian Ranks and Neomuna destination pursuits are going to shake things up, on the seasonal pursuit side, our major focus is reducing complexity and improving the synergy between your seasonal pursuits and the rest of the game.”

Blackburn confirmed that Season 21 is at the “halfway mark” in development, and the team is looking at ways to “differentiate progression” while having a “more novel activity setup.” As the team squashes bugs ahead of the release of Lightfall and Season 20, it’s “hardening our 2023 plans” and “working to make improvements in this space every season next year.”

“There’s still novelty, thematic variety, and new ways to progress your character coming to Destiny over the next several months. But while we work to use this feedback in our future releases, I wanted to make sure everyone knows that your words are not falling on deaf ears.”

The long and short of it is that change is coming, but it will take a while before it’s reflected in future seasons. Time will tell how it’s different from the current model, so stay tuned.
