Of the many titles delayed through the years, Digimon Survive has suffered its fair share. Originally announced in 2018 with a 2019 release date, it would be delayed to 2020, 2021 and finally Q3 2022. During Digimon Con 2022, series producer Kazumasa Habu said that the delays were due to changing development studios.

In the Q&A segment (transcription via Gematsu), Habu said, “In response to our call for inquiries, we’ve received a number of questions regarding the development status of Digimon Survive. We’re very sorry for keeping you waiting even though you’re looking forward to it. We apologize again for not providing any new information and/or keeping you waiting. We sincerely apologize for the delay.

“As we’ve already informed you, once we postponed the release due to a change in the development team, and that we are now developing the game with a new development team. Changing teams has led to a lot of rework on the game, leading to delays. This has caused a lot of uncertainty that prevented us from giving regular updates. However, thanks to the efforts of the new development team, we are now able to be back on track, getting closer and closer to the completion of the game.”

Habu also revealed that information on the release date is expected to “take a little longer” since the team is “still adjusting it early.” “Once again, we sincerely apologize for the delay. But we would appreciate it if you could wait just a little longer.”

Originally, Witchcraft was announced as developing the title but Bandai Namco Entertainment EU’s official page indicates that HYDE is the developer. The latter has worked with Atlus, Nippon Ichi Software, Gust, Marvelous and even Bandai Namco since 2005. It even worked with Comcept and Keiji Inafune on Red Ash.

As for Digimon Survive, it’s currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Habu revealed several other details during the Q&A segment like how battles allow up to 10 units to join in. The main scenario has 12 chapters which branch out into three different routes, each with their own ending. Completing all routes along with other content will apparently take “about 80 to 100 hours.” Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
