Codemasters announced DiRT 5 in May at Inside Xbox and it looked pretty sharp, for the most part. The real question is: How has the game changed from previous iterations? Today, Codemasters has revealed new information about the Career Mode which is offering quite a bit for racing fans.
Upon diving into the world of off-road racing, players will become acquainted with Alex Janièek or AJ whom Troy Baker voices. You’re essentially taken under his wing and must compete against Bruno Durand, a cold veteran racer voiced by Nolan North. As AJ and Durand clash, you’ll be looking to make your own road.
You’ll hear quite a bit about the story and your overall progress via the DIRT Podcast by Donut Media, which is hosted by James Pumphrey and Nolan Sykes. Throughout the campaign, which consists of five chapters, players will be able to choose their own path. There are over 130 events across nine race types to complete but as you finish races, new events will open up.
The better you perform, the more Stamps you’ll receive which can unlock each chapter’s Main Event. These serve to cap off each chapter and finishing third or above is necessary to progress. There are also objectives like Throwdowns, with the player facing off against a challenge in certain events.
Career Mode will have 20 real-world brands that can sponsor you, from Monster Energy and Michelin to Codemasters. They each offer unique rewards, an exclusive livery, stickers and currency for signing. In return, you’ll need to accomplish certain objectives for them which raises your Reputation Rank. If you want, you can change sponsors at any time but you’ll receive less rewards from each.
Career Mode will support four-player split-screen with players able to drop in and drop out at any point. Stamps and currency earned will go towards the host player but others can still receive XP and currency for participating.
DiRT 5 releases in October for Xbox One, PS4 and PC in October, and will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch. It will also release for Google Stadia in early 2021.
