In an interesting turn of events, DOOM Eternal developer id Software took to Twitter to share news with its fans about the cancellation of the Invasion Mode, which was promised earlier last year. Executive produced Marty Stratton announced that the team would instead redirect its focus on a brand-new single-player Horde mode.

The promised Invasion Mode would allow players to invade the world of other players as a demon in a similar fashion to Dark Souls. There’s no update regarding the launch of the Horde mode, but hopefully it won’t be too long before we get more concrete details on it. Given how popular DOOM‘s Arcade mode turned out to be, many fans seem excited with the announcement. while others are. understandably enough, disappointed that Invasion has been cancelled.

DOOM Eternal recently released next-gen upgrades for the game, which added ray-tracing on consoles as well as the ability to play at framerates up to 120 fps. DOOM Eternal is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia.
