A new trailer for id Software’s DOOM Eternal is dropping today and, like previous trailers, should be amazing. It goes live at 12:30 PM ET but before that, lead engine programmer Billy Khan wanted to let people know his thoughts on the game. In short, he believes it’s the “best game we have ever made.” Which sounds almost word-for-word similar to director Marty Stratton’s statement from September 2019.

But it gets better. Khan went on to state, “It is brilliant. I cannot wait for everyone to finally play it. It runs butter smooth. The combat is fluid as silk. id Tech7 is pushing so much geometric detail. The image quality is bonkers. Get excited!” Thus far, it’s hard to really debate anything that he’s saying on a technical level. The footage we’ve seen thus far reflects that DOOM Eternal does indeed have amazing image quality and fluid combat.

But “the best game” that id Software has ever created? That’s a pretty strong statement especially since the studio practically invented the first person shooter genre. If nothing else, it reflects the studio’s belief in the game’s quality. DOOM Eternal is out on March 20th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC with the Nintendo Switch version yet to be dated. Stay tuned for today’s trailer as it releases.
