DOOM The Dark Ages

After becoming available early for Premium Edition owners, id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages is now playable worldwide for Standard Edition players. On Steam, the first-person shooter has reached a peak concurrent total of 30,232 players at launch – a significant drop from previous titles.

DOOM Eternal is still the biggest Steam launch for id Software, with 104,981 peak concurrent players. DOOM (2016) is in second place, peaking at 44,271 concurrent players. Of course, DOOM: The Dark Ages is available on day one Game Pass for console and PC players and likely cannibalizes the Steam player base.

It’s also $69.99, a $10 increase over its previous titles. While that may limit the number of day-one players, it also means higher dollar sales per unit. We’ll have to wait for more details from id Software regarding overall sales on all platforms, so stay tuned.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is playable on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review here.
