It seems like forever since id Software announced that DOOM: The Dark Ages would receive an expansion. However, amid all the teases from game director Hugo Martin about its size and scale, the developer finally revealed Revelations, which launches on July 7th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC owners.
The story follows the Slayer after he’s “wounded and betrayed”, forced to deal with “haunting truths.” Fortunately, a “mysterious ally” comes to his aid as he navigates new levels and even utilizes the new Chain Spear for ripping through the new demons. Interestingly, it seems the Slayer will have to navigate his own mind to progress, which makes you wonder how this all ties into DOOM (2016).
Alongside Revelations, id Software will also add Ripatorium 3.0, including the ability to save and load personal presets, more customization, three new maps and enemies, and new weapons that have been fully upgraded.
For more on DOOM: The Dark Ages, check out our review. We gave it a nine out of ten, praising the excellent combat and implementation of the Shield Saw, though the story could have used some more work. Perhaps Revelations will address that, but as long as there are new threats to annihilate with bloody style, we’ll be more than happy.
