Even with so many big role-playing games in the coming weeks, there’s plenty of hype for Dragon’s Dogma 2. The sequel to Capcom’s 2012 action RPG, directed by Hideaki Itsuno, promises a grand scale with a world four times larger than the original. However, those hoping to make multiple saves and potentially return to previous points should note that it only has one save slot.
IGN Japan confirmed this in its recent preview, stating (translation via DeepL), “There is only one save slot in this game, and auto saves and manual saves share that slot.” Considering how the game discourages fast travel and focuses more on immersion (not to mention the extensive side content, like the Sphinx), it can be taxing for those used to traditional open-world titles.
However, it’s nothing new for the series – Dragon’s Dogma 1 also had only one save slot. PC players could get around this by swapping save files, but it remains to be seen if the sequel allows it.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 launches on March 22nd for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It’s Capcom’s first $70 game, and despite being a sequel, first-time players can “safely dive in” without issues.
