Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Main Story is About as Long as the First Game

"For players that only focus on the things [to] go through the [game's campaign], the playtime itself shouldn't change that dramatically from the first game," says director Hideaki Itsuno.

There’s been no shortage of massive games in 2024 already, but there’s still plenty more to come, and among them, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is probably the one that has the most eyes on it. Capcom has previously revealed that the open world action RPG is going to boast a massive open world that will be roughly four times as large as the first game’s map, but is that going to translate to a longer runtime as well?

Not necessarily. Speaking with Game Informer, director Hideaki Itsuno revealed that if you’re sticking to the main story, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is going to be about as long as the first game- which means we’re looking at the 40+ hours range. Of course, when you factor in the optional content – which you’re supposedly going to find in abundance in Capcom’s upcoming action RPG – that number can be taken much higher.

“For players that only focus on the things [to] go through the [game’s campaign], the playtime itself shouldn’t change that dramatically from the first game,” Itsuno said. “For the people that want to do everything, that see many things and are like, ‘Oh, I want to do this thing, oh that looks interesting,’ well, we put a lot of effort into adding as many elements as possible for this. There’s many things that could catch players’ attention and for those people, they will probably find their playtime significantly longer.”

With Dragon’s Dogma 2 now not far away from launch, Capcom is continuing to crank up its marketing, with new details on the title set to be revealed on March 7 as part of the Capcom Highlights event. It’s possible that the game’s rumoured demo will be announced.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 launches on March 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
