How long a game should be isn’t something that all developers manage to find the right balance for- some tend to be too short, while others can be a bit too long for their own good. The upcoming open world zombie action RPG Dying Light 2 Stay Human, it seems, will fall in the latter category.
Taking recently to Twitter, Techland revealed via the game’s official page that to “fully complete” Dying Light 2, you’ll need to play it for “at least” 500 hours. In a subsequent clarification tweet, they added that this will entail all of the game’s endings, every single one of its quests and side quests, and exploring every nook and cranny of the world. Presumably, this should also include collecting all items, gear, collectibles, and what have you. A regular playthrough, where you finish the story and do a healthy amount of side quests and exploration, should take under 100 hours.
More bang for your buck is always a good thing, so from that perspective, Dying Light 2 Stay Human is making the right promises. At the same time, however, excessively long games have their own pitfalls, and more and more these days, criticisms get levied at open world games in particular for being too bloated. A 100 hour playthrough β or 500 hours, if you prefer to go the completionist route β might not exactly be too appealing to everyone.
Dying Light 2 Stay Human launches on February 4 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and as a cloud-exclusive release for the Nintendo Switch.
UPDATE:
500 hours is related to maxing out the game – finishing all the quests, endings, and exploring every part of the world, but a regular player should finish the story + side quests and do quite a lot of exploring in less than 100 hours, so don't worry! π₯° https://t.co/4R641zkLpg— Dying Light (@DyingLightGame) January 8, 2022
