Remember when Dying Light: The Beast, Techland’s redemption after the underwhelming Dying Light 2 Stay Human, was supposed to receive Xbox One and PS4 versions? Techland has seemingly remembered as well, but not in the way you’d think. The current-gen console ports are no longer happening following “careful consideration.”
This “difficult decision” came from a rather elementary conclusion: The Beast is best suited for current-generation hardware. “Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide.”
Not that Techland didn’t try to make it happen, but “As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create.” It clarified not wanting to “leave those platforms behind” and that this simply “reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience.”
If you pre-ordered on either platform and have been hanging on despite the complete lack of updates until now, especially after delays, you can get a refund. And perhaps, finally, move on.
For those who haven’t dived into Dying Light: The Beast, it’s received numerous updates on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC after reportedly selling 1.5 million copies in its first week. New Game Plus, Legend Levels, weapons and Nightmare Mode have been great additions, but the most noteworthy has been Restored Land.
This introduced a brand new way to play the base game with persistent world progression. Slay enough infected, and you could permanently clear an area, allowing other humans to occupy it. It goes both ways, though, as looted supplies won’t respawn. You can check out our impressions here for more details.
