Dying Light: The Beast Trailer Highlights Extensive Gore and Kyle’s Brute Strength

Have you ever wanted to grab a rebar from an oversized zombie and smash it in the head? Techland's sequel offers the chance.

While Dying Light is best known for its parkour mechanics and tense nighttime survival situations, it’s easy to forget how gory it can be. As if taking cues from Dead Island 2, Techland has implemented some realistic gore mechanics in Dying Light: The Beast, which you can check out in the trailer below.

Decapitation is only the start – slicing through a zombie’s body reveals its infected innards and bones before it crumples. One shot highlights how a sledgehammer can expose an enemy’s brain on the first hit, followed up by a satisfying splatter on the second. However, because protagonist Kyle Crane’s mutation affords some superhuman strength, he can also punch through bodies with his bare hands.

Perhaps the coolest moment is stopping a strike from a heavy zombie, seizing its rebar weapon and planting it firmly in the creature’s skull.

Dying Light: The Beast launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (with the PS4 and Xbox One versions launching later this year). It retails for $59.99 – head here for franchise director Tymon Smektala’s thoughts on why this is justified. Gamescom attendees can also look forward to a playable demo from August 20th to 24th at Techland’s booth.
