After Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported that a Dead Space 2 remake was in the works, albeit in the pre-production phase, publisher Electronic Arts has spoken against the same. A spokesperson told IGN, “We don’t normally comment on rumors, but there is no validity to this story.”

While it didn’t specify which part of the story had no validity (such as whether the first game had lackluster sales), Grubb responded on Twitter. “I give you my permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says ‘that isn’t true’, but they don’t specify which part of the story they are talking about, well … yeah. Dead Space 2 was definitely being planned. It had a code name. And they aren’t making it now.”

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier added to all this on Twitter, noting, “People familiar with the project tell Bloomberg that EA’s statement is correct. Motive has been on other projects for nearly a year.” Project leads also reportedly wanted to make a new game rather than another remake. His latest report did echo Grubb’s about the first remake’s poor sales – head here for more details.

Grubb responded that Bloomberg’s report is similar to what he was told and that a Dead Space 2 remake isn’t in development, “even though that is something they once considered. They aren’t anymore. That’s it.” Since the earlier stated pre-production work was allegedly only concepting, perhaps that’s as far as the consideration went.

Motive Studio is currently working on Marvel’s Iron Man, which passed a “major internal milestone” earlier this year, and Battlefield, with a new team being built to focus on the franchise. Electronic Arts hasn’t commented on the future of the Dead Space franchise after last year’s remake.
